Spanish Immersion Program in Panajachel and Antigua, Guatemala 15 days and 14 nights


Come join us for an adventure of a life time where you will study Spanish in the mornings and in the afternoons exploring two of Guatemala’s special treasures; the city of Panajachel located on Lago Atitlan and the historical colonial city of Antigua. During your trip, you will have many opportunities to use your Spanish that you have learned to explore the rich history and culture of Guatemala.  Instead of staying in a hotel, you will be living with a host family and have an amazing opportunity to practice what you are learning and experience the hospitality of the Guatemalan people.

Day 1

Arrive at La Aurora International Airport where you will meet your guide, other tour participants, and transfer to a hotel  for the evening in Guatemala city.  A welcome dinner will be at the Kacao Restaurant. 
Hotel: Real Intercontinental Hotel or similar accommodation 

Day 2  

Transfer to Panajachel where you will meet you host family and settle in.  Afterwards, there will be walking tour of Panajachel located on the shores of Lago Atitlan.  In the evening,  there will be a reception dinner for all participants


Day 3

In the morning, there will be a visit  to Lake Atitlán, one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. The word “Atitlán” is a Mayan word that translates as “the place where the rainbow gets its colors”. Discover the magic that surrounds all its greatness while taking a boat to cross the Lake and visit a Tzutuhil Village, around the lake, where you’ll be able experience the Mayan culture to the purest name San Juan La Laguna. Painters on the main street can be founded painting in the naive style with some eagle eye style. Agriculture is most important for the economy, with some organic coffee and organic plantations, and also the textiles where women have kept alive the process of dying yarns using native plants.

Day 4

Morning:  4 hrs. of Spanish class

Afternoon: After the class, you will travel to the village of “Solola” on a “chicken bus” to  purchase ingredients for your cooking class.  You will experience Guatemala in an authentic and personal way as you discover the flavors of Guatemala cooking at the Lake Atitlan Maya kitchen. A 3-hour cooking class will help you understand how Mayan culture and Spanish colonial influences produced a variety of mouth­watering dishes. You’ll have lots of hands-on fun learning how to prepare up to 3 authentic Guatemalan dishes during this class. Learn how to prepare traditional recipes and come away with all the skills you need to prepare them in your own kitchen! 


Day 5

Morning:  4 hrs. of Spanish class

Afternoon: Visit the town Visit San Antonio Palopo on the eastern shore of Lago Atitlan and the home of the Cakchiquel Maya. The Cakchiquel Maya are famous for their hand crafted pottery which evolved from the ancient Maya and influenced by modern techniques. During your visit you will have an opportunity to visit a ceramic and pottery factories. We will tour the factories and watch the process of hand-painting the ceramics. After lunch visit San Antonio Palopó, a village where we will be visiting

Day 6

Morning: This morning you will visit the famous market of “Chichicastenango.” This is Guatemala’s largest and most colorful indigenous market and attracts trades from high land villages for miles around. Another exciting sight to see in the markets is the the famous church of “Igelsia De Santos Tomas” and dates to 1540.  The church is built upon a Pre-Columbian platform and Liche’ Maya priests still use the church for their rituals.

Day 7

Morning:  you will enjoy Lake Atitlan in a Kayak tour for about 4 hours where you will have the chance to discover the magic that surrounds all its greatness while visiting some Mayan Villages and other interesting sites.

Day 8

Morning:  4 hrs. of Spanish class

Afternoon: Visit the Atitlan Nature Reserve, where you will walk along beautiful trails through dense forest, crossing high-hanging bridges as you slowly climb into the forest canopy.  As you wander through the reserve, will also visit both a butterfly and botanical garden.  If you are lucky you may see a few monkeys and a range of tropical bird species.


Day 9

Today you will leave Panajachel behind and travel to Antigua for the next part of your trip. On the way you, will visit the Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican city  of “ Ixmiche”  or known as the “Land of the Corn;” the capital of the Kaqchikel Maya kingdom. Experience for yourself a place fulfilled with mysticism, being the city that witnessed the conquer of the Spanish and a place for Mayan rituals. 

Arriving in Antigua, you will meet you host family, settle in and have an opportunity to explore the city of Antigua on your own. afterwards, you will come together for a relaxing dinner in a local restaurant for dinner.


Day 10

Morning:  4 hrs. of Spanish class

Afternoon: visit the most important and significant attractions of the city including Antigua’s most beautiful churches, monasteries, convents, and center park.


Day 11

Morning: 4 hrs of Spanish class 

Afternoon: visit a village named Santiago Zamora, where Eleven years ago, a group of Mayan women from the village of Santiago Zamora came together to form an association called ” Santiaguito”. Its purpose is to work together to produce and sell traditional textiles and other products and distribute the benefits of it to improve their living conditions.


Day 12

Morning: 4 hrs of Spanish Class

Afternoon: visit the museums of Casa Santo Domingo. The Museums Promenade tt is a route that makes it possible to visit the museums installed in what was the church and convent of Santo Domingo and Santo Tomás de Aquino (Saint Thomas Aquinas) College. There are 5 different museums, where are: Colonial, Archaeological, Pre-columbian Art and Modern Glass, Silver and Pharmacy Museum. Also you will have the chance to visit the view point Cerro de la Cruz, where you see the city of Antigua from the top.


Day 13

Morning: 4 hrs Spanish Class

Afternoon:   visit a coffee plantation where you will experience the entire coffee process considered one of the best in the world in quality and flavor. Visit Coffee Museum for exhibits and dioramas introduce you to the history of coffee and explain the growing and processing of the golden bean. 


Day 14

Morning: 4 hrs Spanish Class

Afternoon: visit to the Choco Museo where will be able to see the chocolate making process from the cacao bean to the chocolate bar. You will participate in one of the chocolate making workshop and experience the feeling of a chocolate maker. 
At night you will enjoy a Farewell dinner at Posada de Don Rodrigo Antigua restaurant were you will enjoy with live Marimba and Baile de los Moros folk dancing.


Day 15

Morning: Transfer to the airport to take your flight back to your country, three hours’ prior the departure of the flight.
